Name: Selma Blair Beitner
Height: 5'3"
Birth Date:June 23, 1972
Birth Place: Southfield, Michigan, USA
Occupation: Actress |

Her lesbian
scene with Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions
was un-for-gett-a-ble.
In the town of Southfield, Michigan, Selma Blair
Beitner was born June 23, 1972. Blair decided
to take a big step and move to New York City
to pursue a career in photography, after receiving
a combined degree in Fine Arts and English from
Michigan University. But once in the Big Apple,
she realized that her future did not lie behind
the camera, but in front of it.
Blair's career began to snowball and it took
a great performance in Cruel Intentions to push
herself over the edge. Contacts were made and
the phone was ringing off the hook after the
success of the film, for which Blair received
a "Best Kiss" award from the MTV Movie
Awards and a nomination for Best Breakthrough
Performance for her role as Cecile Caldwell.
The Warner Brothers network also grabbed her
for the title role in the 1999 sitcom Zoe (formerly
Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane), which met its
fate in 2000.
Although you probably have an astounding visual
of Selma from Cruel Intentions imprinted in
your mind, you might recognize her from her
roles in Legally Blonde, Can't Hardly Wait and
The Sweetest Thing. She also played the title
role in the WB's sitcom, Zoe.
Selma Blair started out doing cool, independent
films that received high praise despite minimal
promotion. Right away, her talent and willingness
to take a good script and work with it were
evident. Despite being a newcomer, she knew
where her loyalty lay: there would be no settling
for a lesser story just to get her name out
there. These are admirable traits for someone
surrounded by the intoxicating hype of Hollywood.
When Cruel Intentions came around in 1999, it
may have seemed that Blair was selling out,
going for the mainstream film with what seemed
like a weak plot. After seeing the picture though,
we vowed never to judge her again. Not only
was it actually a good movie, but there were
also a plethora of great scenes that are now
filed away in our minds. |

Variety reports that Universal Pictures will
produce and release HELLBOY 2, Guillermo del
Toro's sequel to his supernatural superhero
film from 2004. The project has been searching
for a home since being turned down by Revolution
Studios and Columbia, which were behind the
original; Universal now plans to roll the film
next April in Budapest and London, with a summer
2008 release scheduled. Del Toro is scripting
and will direct the film, with Ron Perlman and
Selma Blair (pictured) returning as the titular
horned hero and his pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz
Sherman; at the recent San Diego Comic-Con,
del Toro said that Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) will
also encore with an expanded role. Back as well
are producers Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and
Mike Richardson, with Mike Mignola (who created
the Dark Horse comic on which the films are
based) on board as co-producer. Mignola also
came up with the reported storyline for HELLBOY
2, subtitled THE GOLDEN ARMY, in which the creatures
of the mythical world rebel against humanity
and Hellboy has to stop them. |
