There is something
so sweet and sexy about her that we seem like
school boys when we talk about her. And those
eyes... they are prime candidates for pickup
lines.
Rachel Weisz has starred in the box-office blockbusters
The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. She also played
in Enemy at the Gates, Stealing Beauty, Chain
Reaction, Runaway Jury, and Constantine.
Rachel Weisz had been acting for a long time
in British films and theater, as well as in
American movies, but very few people really
noticed her until her role as a charming, feisty,
yet slightly nave librarian in the The Mummy
(1999) with Brendan Fraser.
Though her name was relatively unknown beforehand,
Rachel had done more than indie films in the
past. Among her most high-profile early roles
were those in Chain Reaction (1996) with Keanu
Reeves and Morgan Freeman, as well as in Bernardo
Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty (1996) opposite
Liv Tyler.
Weisz was born in London, England. Her father,
George Weisz, is a Hungarian-born Jewish inventor
whose family fled to England in order to escape
Nazi persecution. Her mother, Edith, is a Vienna-born
Austrian psychoanalyst and aspiring actress
of 3/4 Ashkenazi Jewish and 1/4 Italian Catholic
heritage. Weisz was raised Jewish.
Weisz was educated at North London Collegiate
School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where she
graduated with a 2:1 in English. During her
university years she appeared in various student
productions, co-founding a student drama group
called Cambridge Talking Tongues, which went
on to win a Guardian Student Drama Award at
the Edinburgh Festival for an improvised piece
called Slight Possession.
Rachel was next seen in About a Boy (2002) with
Hugh Grant and Toni Collette, The Shape of Things
(2003), Confidence (2003), Runaway Jury (2003),
Envy (2004), and Constantine (2005) with Keanu
Reeves.
In 2005, Rachel can also be seen in The Constant
Gardener and The Fountain.
Rachel has also graced the cover of several
magazines such as Tatler and Bikini, and despite
her flair for posing, she declined Hugh Hefner's
offer to appear in his renowned magazine.
So the entire male population didn't get to
see dear Rachel, but some lucky males have been
allegedly romantically linked to her, including
her My Summer With Des co-star Neil Morrissey,
her I Want You co-star, Alessandro Nivola, her
Chain Reaction and Constantine co-star Keanu
Reeves, and American Beauty British director,
Sam Mendes. In June 2005, she got engaged to
Requiem for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky. |
